CHAMPs Learners
At each new Key Stage pupils follow an Access to Learning, A2L, Induction Programme. They are taught that anyone can be a successful learner if they follow the CHAMPS rules. Teachers at Sperrin also follows these guidelines as it's important that both teacher and learner are working together following the same guidance for success.
C ConfidentStep 1 Concentrate your mind
Student are taught how to set goals, and motivate themselves, manage their time, and relax and calm themselves - in short to be confident and fit to learn. |
H Home inStep 2 Home in on the facts
Student are taught how to take in information to suit the way they like to learn best and to take notes in a way that makes facts easier to remember. It shows them how to link the current lesson to their previous knowledge, to develop effective listening and reading skills, to use the Internet properly and continuously ask themselves questions as they learn in order to keep focuses and interested. |

Student are shown how to explore and think about what they are learning - using a variety of techniques that particularly suit their strongest forms of intelligence - which they can assess via an interactive test. |
M MemoryStep 4 Memorise it
Student are taught a selection of memory techniques to make it easy to recall facts on demand and prepare memorable revision notes. |
P ProveStep 5 Prove you know
Student are taught to make sure that they have really understood what they've learned by continuously testing themselves as they learn. Advice is given on preparing for and taking exams and how to write clearly and engagingly. Proven spelling strategies are encouraged. |
S Success?Step 6 Sit back and think
Student are taught how important it is to think, not just about what they have learned but about how they have learned it. In this way they can continuously improve the way they learn. |
